Rep. Charles Rangel wrote six checks for about $10,800 in back taxes, and then penned an open letter to New Yorkers Friday, saying he is the target of a GOP "guerrilla war."

Rangel is a disgusting cheat. No and low interest loans and mortgages, tax evasion, special deals and on and on. This is no doubt the tip ofhis iceberg. He will continue to get special treatment, though, from losers like him.

You broke the law Chuck!

What did you expect, that everyone would just look the other way?

You're a scum bag, you should be getting prison time like any other american would for tax evasion.

Time for you to resign.

Charlie is just P.O.'d that he got caught and as usual is trying to blame someone else for his own errors and wrongdoing. Typical of people drunk on power or the belief that they are more important than everyone else.

Do the right thing Mr. Rangel - resign.

Let's see - tax evasion on rental income, 4 rent-stabilized apartments, parked his car, for several years with a tarp on it, in a government building, which I helped pay for - "Guerilla War"? He must be sniffing something. There are only 2 choices - resignation or removal. That picture of him laying on his chaise lounge says it all - barf.

What a great defense - blame your lies, deception, and fraudulent behavior on the GOP. If Rangel's constituents fall for this and let him off, they are gutless and just as guilty of the dishonesty that Rangel has shown. His colleagues have already shown they are gutless and dishonest via their failure to remove him. Mind you, this wasn't just one year. It wasn't just one omission. For Rangel, who is in charge of the committee that writes the tax laws, to plead "I didn't know" and "It's no big deal" is hypocrisy and blatant perjury at its finest.

I cannot figure out just how the Republicans forced Rangel to not declare income on his tax return. They must be pretty persuasive. Maybe Charlie just forgot how many houses he owns and so did his accountants. Scratching my head over why those Republicans would force such a thing on Rangel.

Well, there you go again. You can get away with anything if you are on the right side of the fence. For politicians on the other side, they are cast out and the headlines are there on page 1 of all the liberal newspapers. Just goes to show, this is a one sided world. Rangel can't be trusted, but he gets a slap on the hand and he promises to be a good boy. This is why we are having a melt down in our financial world. Big payouts and people in politics at the right place to cover them to make sure they steal our money and get away with it. I hope this election brings about reform and Washington gets a good housecleaning. It is long overdue!! I am sick to my stomach every time I see Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer and the others. They are the ruin of our great nation.

Folks, leave party affiliation out of this discussion. Our laws are not written so as to apply to Rep or Dem, but to all equally......he broke the laws he helped create, and should be judged accordingly. The old saw about absolute power corupts absolutely applies here. Politicions of all parties have a well stocked history of not abiding by the rules they make, living above the mere mortals they reign over.

I think Charlie Rangel has shown himself to be just another politician who abuses the system. There are way too many Senators and Representatives who do the same. John McCain being one of them. As I recall he was delinquent on 4 years of taxes due on property he owned in La Jolla. Let's treat both men equally with contempt.

Why is it a governement official is exempt from paying the penalties, that just oisses me off. Is the IRS being selective on penalties?
I had to pay them when I left a company and in order to survive I had to cash out a 401k. The IRS was not forgiving of that and added the penalties along the way. I wonder if there is a lawsuit in this against the IRS.
Rangel saying he is being punished is a joke, not enough is being done to hold these officials accountible now.

        Go McCain

That just shows that the "good old boys" network is alive and well in congress and in the senate. And yes, go McCain --- no matter what it takes ( as Bob Dole would say, " by hook or by crook". Obama wants to take care of the rest of the world and ignore the problems at home-- he is probably more qualified to work for the Red Cross if he is truly concerned about the welfare of others--- I would recommend him for that position-- ( if he agreed to not accept any pay )

Barack Obama's half brother, George (I believe) currently lives in Nairobi, studying to be a mechanic. I saw him interviewed on CNN, he said, he is not living in poverty - smiled when that was asked of him. He would like to return to Kenya after he learns his trade. Would you suggest Barrack support him, bring him to this country (he didn't say he wanted to come here) or allow him to live the life he chooses? Not really sure what this subject has to do with Rangel - perhaps just another slap at Barrack Obama!

It is a CRIME to fail to pay taxes. Just ask Wesley Snipes

Second he didn't pay until he got caught

Third no one knows if what he finally did pay is what he actually owes.

Fourth he didn't pay the penalties and interest.
